Khaldun Initiative

Fostering knowledge society.

We support Muslim graduate students from the Global South pursuing scholarship in the social sciences and humanities — with funding for application costs, mentorship from former scholars, and a community to grow into.

Now open Cycle 2026-2027 closes June 12, 2026

What we do

Three programs, run by alumni and volunteer scholars, designed to help promising students reach graduate study and stay connected after they get there.

Scholarship support

Funding for GRE, IELTS/TOEFL, and university application fees. Airfare and settling-in support for exceptional candidates.

Mentoring

New scholars are matched with alumni who've walked the same path — application reviews, programme advice, and a network that lasts beyond admission.

Professional development

Workshops, webinars, orientation sessions, and summer retreats to develop scholars into future authority figures in their fields.

Impact

Since the 2013 pilot, Khaldun scholars have gone on to graduate study across the US, Canada, the UK and Europe, and Turkey — most on full or partial university scholarships. Several already work as academics or in key international organisations.

“The overarching goal is to build and nurture a new generation of social scientists, scholars, and thought leaders from the Global South who possess both mainstream and Islamic knowledge.”
